Jay Gatsby's Private Aftershows

Thanks to my friend William Brown, I recently got to join the team at NYC's "The Great Gatsby," an immersive experience at the Park Central Hotel. They were in urgent need of some help handling the lighting after the show ended each night during opening week, and I was able to jump in.

Essentially, the experience revolves around a main "jazz bar" room that doubles as a miniature night club after the show is over each night, complete with a live band or DJ. It was my responsibility to busk (change the lighting to the live music) and keep an eye on any other lighting needs, including the shutdown process at the end of the night.

Although I was nervous since I had never done such a thing before, it was a great experience for my resume and my mind. It was my first time working with a time lock, handling a company switch, turning off hundreds of dimmers each night, and also my first time busking...not to mention the opportunity to meet Broadway lighting designer Jeff Croiter, the LD for the show.

Thank you to Mary Duffe (production manager), Riva Fairhall (assistant lighting designer), Marián Lopez (audio technician), and Cami Harkins (lighting board operator), for their help throughout my time at Gatsby.
