Finding my corner (of the sky)...

SCAD's "Pippin" has come and gone... and that means my work here is done.

While there were many rewarding moments to the process of being the lighting design for this show at the Lucas Theater in Savannah, GA, the last few weeks taught me more about this career path than I have ever known before.

I am so proud of myself and my team of peers (associate designer: Ava Ansorg, head programmer: Morgan Harrington, uncredited head electrician: Colton Stovall, and stage manager: Kamryn Neffle), and I am very thankful for their support to get through the storm.

The main lesson I learned from this production is the following: no matter how much you may still have to learn, or how unconfident you may feel in a position of leadership, it is imperative to stand strong. Some people will always seek to exercise their intellectual, occupational, or emotional power over you, and this show taught me to never allow someone to do that again. (On a lighter note, I have also learned that musical timing is apparently my superpower... but I will likely kindly decline from lighting Shakespeare productions anytime soon. Perhaps concert lighting will be my corner!)

Now, I can look back on the finer moments (and the nasty ones) and laugh... for the show went on, and my work here is done.

Photos and videos: coming soon!
