100 Medleys and Mickey Mouse

As I've written about in the past, I love working on my 24-Hour Hits Festival medleys for my theoretical music festival. I love telling people about my hobbies, but it can be very difficult when half of them involve dreaming of a show that will likely never exist. Nevertheless, I enjoy it.

I have now completed a whopping one hundred medleys (the last being Beyoncé), and Whitney Houston will be following at 101. The amount of music that I have exposed myself to through this process is extremely rewarding; not only do I recognize songs on the radio that I wouldn't have before, but I have several new artists, genres, and decades of songs added to my playlists and stuck in my head! (I also particularly enjoy when I hear a song that I had always known but never knew who the singer was. Who knew that "I Want To Know What Love Is" came from Foreigner?!)

In addition to this ongoing, lifelong project, I have also begun to create a theoretical production that spans the history of Disney music, including music from movies, television shows, musicals, and theme park attractions. Because my goal is to fit this production into a typical duration of two-and-a-half hours or less, it is quite a challenge to siphon more than eighty years of music into medleys and performances within that criterion.

Despite the challenge, I am enjoying the journey of dreaming up a set list with songs from villains, lovers, sidekicks, and mentors, franchises that span various media, and even silly references to songs that may not make the cut. Disney (and its theme parks) has always had a special place in my heart (as has showmaking), so this project is right up my alley.
